Jang Dong-gun, star of such hit films as "Taegukgi" and "The Coast Guard", filed a lawsuit against a local company on Tuesday over the use of the popular actor's image without permission in a television commercial airing in Vietnam.
Jang and his management firm, M Stars, is suing pharmaceutical company Korea United Pharm for airing in Vietnam a commercial that uses a scene from "Uiga Hyongjae (Brother Doctors)", the 1997 MBC television drama of which Jang starred in.
Jang and M Stars are asking for 300 million won in compensation.
However, Korea United Pharm insists that the company made a contract with Jang and his management firm in April 1999 that gives them the legal right to use the scene.
